Here's what writing has looked like for me for most of my life:

I have a thought. A complete, fully-formed, usually brilliant thought (if I do say so myself).

I sit down at the keyboard to type it out.

By the time my fingers hit the keys, the thought has fragmented into three different directions. I'm now trying to remember which version I wanted to write while also fighting dyslexic letter reversals and autocorrect that thinks it knows better than I do what word I meant.

Halfway through the sentence, I've forgotten where I was going with it.

I delete everything and start over.
