Last edition I told you I can't keep up.

Seven models in 22 days. Companies building AI that builds itself.

OpenAI literally cancelling a model because it learned to lie. And me, the guy who writes the AI newsletter, sitting there going... I don't even know what to tell you anymore.

That wasn't a complaint. It was a realization.

And here's what hit me after I published that: if the guy writing the AI newsletter can't keep up, what does that say about the current approach?

It tells us the approach is broken.

Not the technology. The technology is incredible. The approach. The way we interact with it. The expectation that every single human is supposed to learn every single tool, keep up with every single model drop, figure out which AI does what, and when to use which one.

That's insane.

The answer is not "try harder." The answer is not "use more tools." The answer is not another productivity hack or a better prompt template.

The answer is a fundamentally different interface between humans and AI.

And I think I know what it looks like.

One Agent. Your Agent.

I've been calling it the Cognitive Partner Agent.

Not another AI tool. Not another chatbot. Not another app you download and forget about in a week.

One personal agent per human.

Think of it as the routing layer between you and every AI tool, model, and agent. Like Jarvis in Marvel, except instead of building Iron Man suits, it's helping you think, create, communicate, and work in whatever way your brain actually works.

Here's what makes it different from everything out there right now:

It knows YOU.

Your preferences. Your abilities. Your use cases. How you think. How you communicate. What you're good at. What you struggle with. What you're trying to build.

Instead of you figuring out the tech stack, it figures it out for you. It decides which LLM to use for this particular task. Which tool to call. Which agent to route to. You never have to think about whether this is a ChatGPT question or a Claude question or a Gemini question. You just talk to your agent. It handles the rest.

Flip the whole thing around. Instead of everyone learning every AI tool, everyone gets one agent that learns THEM.

Right now, every time a new model drops, millions of people have to figure out what it does and whether they should switch. That's backwards. Your agent evaluates the new model against what it knows about you and your work. If the new model is better for YOUR use case, it switches. If it's not, it ignores it. You never even have to know it happened.

That's the future. And honestly? Parts of it are already possible today.

What Makes It Individual

Four layers make each cognitive partner unique to its human:

Use cases. Different people need different tools. A writer needs different AI than an engineer, who needs different AI than a teacher, who needs different AI than a coach. Your agent knows which tools you need and when to use them. You don't.

Preferences. Your style. Your tone. The outcomes you care about. How you want information presented. Do you want bullet points or paragraphs? Do you want the short version first? Do you learn better from examples or explanations? All of that is customized to you.

Abilities. This is the one nobody talks about. Cognitive abilities. Physical abilities. Sensory abilities. The interface adapts to what you can and can't do. Not as an afterthought. As the foundation.

Look and feel. How it looks. How it reads. How it sounds. Font size, contrast, spacing, color, audio speed. Visual design IS accessibility. This isn't cosmetic. For many people, this is the difference between usable and unusable.

Thought Tokens

OK, here's where it gets interesting.

Right now we have this blunt binary label: "AI generated." Yes or no. That's it. That's what we're working with.

That's useless.

Because nothing is purely AI generated or purely human generated anymore. Everything is a blend. The question isn't whether AI was involved. The question is how much of the original thinking came from you.

So I've been thinking about something I call Thought Tokens.

A running ratio. YOUR original thinking versus borrowed, synthesized, or AI-generated content.

Like: "This paragraph is 80% Matt's stream of consciousness, 15% synthesized from things he's read, 5% AI-structured."

It's about the weight of what's already been created versus the stream-of-conscious thoughts happening in the moment. Your words, your thoughts, your vibrations versus the collective knowledge base.

This matters because attribution is about to become one of AI's biggest conversations. And right now we have no framework for it. Thought Tokens could be that framework. Not a binary stamp. A spectrum.

The Memory Bridge

OK. This is the personal part. This is the part where I need you to really hear me.

This is what dyslexia feels like from the inside.

You KNOW the information is in your brain. You've absorbed it. You've lived it. You've thought it through. You've turned it over a hundred times. The information is there.

But you can't always retrieve it on demand.

It's not a knowledge problem. It's a retrieval problem.

I know it's already in my brain. I know I've done it, or seen it, or thought it, or absorbed it. I know that information is there, but I just can't retrieve it. And so this is that connection to my brain that helps me do that.

That's the Memory Bridge.

The cognitive partner isn't just a router for AI tools. It's an extension of your own memory and retrieval system. It's the bridge between what your brain HAS and what it can ACCESS in any given moment.

When I dictate these newsletters, I close my eyes and I talk. Voice is already my retrieval mechanism. I bypass the parts of my brain that get in the way of written output and I just... think out loud. The cognitive partner takes that further. It holds your previous thoughts. It connects them to your current ones. It helps you retrieve what you already know.

It doesn't give you new information. It's helping you access what's already yours.

That's fundamentally different from what any AI tool is doing right now.

Beyond Dyslexia

I discovered this framework because of dyslexia. That's my lens. That's my lived experience. But the concept is universal.

People who can't type. People who can't talk. People who can't see. People who can't hear.

Anyone who has ever wanted technology to adapt to THEIR brain instead of forcing their brain to adapt to technology.

That's everyone. That's literally everyone.

I found the door in dyslexia. But on the other side of that door is a room big enough for every kind of mind. It's all interconnected.

And here's where it goes next: wearable tech that captures something even before language. Energy. Wavelength. Intention. The agent translates that into action. I know that sounds like science fiction. But voice-to-text sounded like science fiction not that long ago, and I'm dictating this newsletter with my eyes closed right now.

The interface keeps moving closer to thought. The cognitive partner is the next step on that path.

And it's not about replacing human thinking. It's about removing the friction between having a thought and acting on it. For some people, that friction is a screen they can't read. For some people it's a keyboard they can't use. For me it's the gap between knowing something and being able to pull it up when I need it.

The cognitive partner closes that gap. For all of us.

OK But What Do I Actually Do With This?

I know. The vision is big. But you're reading this on a Thursday and you've got stuff to do. So here's what you can do right now, today, with whatever AI tool you're already using:

Start treating your AI tool as a partner, not a search engine. Give it context about YOU. Tell it how you think. Tell it what you're working on. Tell it what you struggle with. The more it knows about you, the closer you get to the cognitive partner experience, even with today's tools.

Use voice. Seriously. If you're dyslexic and you're still typing every prompt, you're fighting the wrong battle. Talk to it. Close your eyes if you need to. Let your brain do what it does best.

Save your prompts. The good ones. The ones that actually worked. The ones where the AI finally understood what you meant. Those prompts are the beginning of your cognitive partner's memory. They're the patterns of how YOUR brain communicates with AI. That's gold. Don't throw it away.

Steal This Prompt

Copy this. Paste it into whatever AI you're using. Customize the brackets. Start building your cognitive partner today:

❝

Act as my cognitive partner. Here's what you need to know about me: I'm [describe yourself, your work, your goals]. I learn best by [listening/watching/doing/reading]. I struggle with [what gets in your way]. When I ask you something, I want you to [how you like information delivered, like: give me the short version first, then details if I ask, or use analogies, or keep it conversational]. Remember this context for our entire conversation and build on it as we go.

That's not a magic prompt. It's a starting point. But it's the right starting point. Because it puts YOU at the center, not the tool.

Every conversation you have after that gets a little better. A little more tuned to how your brain works. A little closer to the cognitive partner that doesn't exist as a product yet but absolutely exists as a practice you can start right now.

TL;DR- For My Fellow Skimmers

The pace of AI is impossible for one person to keep up with. The solution isn't trying harder.

It's a Cognitive Partner Agent: one personal agent per human that knows how you think, what you need, and routes every AI tool through that understanding.

It's the memory bridge between what your brain knows and what your brain can access.

It works for dyslexic thinkers and everyone. Start building yours today by giving your AI real context about who you are.
